Digital Publishing II

Class
Includes layout procedures from thumbnails and roughs to final comprehensive and print output. Emphasis on design principles for the creation of advertising and publishing materials, and techniques for efficient planning and documenting projects. Coursework focuses on preparing students to take the Adobe Certified Associate exams in InDesign and Photoshop for Print and Digital Media Publication and Visual Design. For this course, Weatherford College maintains lab hours open to all students. Each semester, departmental faculty members and tutors post hours in these labs when they are available to assist students.

Evaluation Standards

There will be 6 quizzes, 3 exams, approximately 12 review assignments.

Final grades will be calculated by the following scale:

A: 90% and above
B: 80 to 89%
C: 70 to 79%
D: 60 to 69%
F: less than 60%

Assignments:

The computer assignments will demonstrate your ability to use the computer and to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Assignments will be accepted up to a week late with a penalty deduction of 30 points. You are required to complete all of the assignments assigned. Adobe InDesign and Photoshop will be the only programs taught in this course. No other software or hardware will be supported for this course in the lab or by the instructor.

Quizzes:

  • Quizzes are open book.
  • You will receive random questions for each quiz.
  • Quizzes will be deactivated after the due date.
  • Quiz results are available for viewing after the due date.

Exams:

The 3 proctored exams MUST be taken in person on the Weatherford campus and will be closed-book. Material on the exams will come mostly from the prior quizzes and practice tests. A picture ID is required at exam time. Check the course schedule for the days that the three exams are due.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance is taken and verified for financial aid and other reasons by your Introduction Post and completion of your Profile. Weekly attendance thereafter is recorded by timely submissions of assignments.

Information Systems Certificate

  • Students will gain proficiency in the use of computer system hardware and software.
  • Students will gain knowledge and skills for entry-level information technology positions in business and industry.
  • Students will gain knowledge in application programs, basic computer programming, basic networking, and an introduction to computer hardware.

Desktop/Web Publishing Certificate

  • Students will apply skills in office productivity software, digital publishing, and presentation graphics.
  • Students will demonstrate web design skills and be able to critique and evaluate the design of web sites.
  • Students will create, edit, and publish newsletters, brochures, calendars, letterheads, and other publications.
