An introduction to the fundamental terminology, concepts, theory, and application of two-dimensional design. (Design I and Design II do not need to be taken sequentially)
Upon successful completion of this course, students will:
- Identify and apply the elements of art and principles of two-dimensional design.
- Employ discipline specific vocabulary in the evaluation of two-dimensional design problems.
- Demonstrate creative skill in aesthetic problem solving within assigned parameters.
- Demonstrate an appropriate level of professional practice, including safety, craft and presentation.
All students are expected to complete and turn in for grading all class projects, participate in the faculty/student art exhibition including the process of installation and dismantling the show, and complete a final project demonstrating knowledge of the two-dimensional process.
Course Competencies:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate correct usage of various two dimensional media.
- Demonstrate effective methods of communication through two-dimensional media.
- Demonstrate knowledge of positive/negative rendering.
- Demonstrate use of the basic art elements of line, color, shape, value, and texture.
- Apply principles of art including repetition, variation, emphasis, and unity.
- Present and exhibit visual work in an exhibition.
- Refine work for copy.
