Drawing II

Class
An expansion of Drawing I. This course continues to investigate media, techniques, and subjects, exploring perceptual and descriptive possibilities with consideration of drawing as a developmental process as well as an end in itself. Three hours lecture and three hours laboratory per week.
Student Learning Outcomes

To represent a variation of value from darkest dark to lightest light, to adequately draw a likeness, i.e., relating eye to hand coordination; and to use the media of ebony, charcoal, ink and scratchboard.

Course Competencies:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to demonstrate ability to:

  • Use perspective in drawing.
  • Replicate proportion and balance in a drawing.
  • Produce a variety of techniques through the use of ebony, charcoal, and ink.
  • Communicate visually through drawing.
  • Properly present and exhibit finished work.
  • Present a variation of value from darkest dark to lightest light.
  • Adequately draw a likeness, i.e., relating eye to hand coordination.
  • Use the media of ebony, charcoal, ink, and scratchboard.

Required Textbooks
No textbook will be required. However careful review of frequent handouts is mandatory. Students may be encouraged to refer to a number of different publications on drawing. See Instructor Information Sheet for requirements of supplies.
Evaluation Standards

The final grade will be calculated on a minimum of seven drawings, a mid-semester project and a final project, attendance, and exhibition participation.

Projects – 60%
Mid-semester project – 15%
Final project – 15%
Art exhibition participation – 10%

2 ebony drawings showing variation from lightest light to darkest dark
2 charcoal drawings showing use of the media in chiaroscuro and imitation of three- dimensional forms
1 ink-hatching
1 ink- crosshatching
1 ink-pointilism
1 scratchboard

Each student must mat his/her work for presentation
