Painting II

Class
Continuation of Painting I with emphasis of individual expression. Three lecture hours and three laboratory hours per week.
Student Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to complete all painting projects and participate in the installation and presentation of the semester Art Exhibition. The projects will cover a variety of techniques and styles with emphasis on individuality and creativity. Students must attend class regularly, participate in regular activities, and complete the final research project.

Course Competencies:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding and ability to use the research materials available in present day and earlier.
  • Exhibit a functional knowledge of composition, art elements, and techniques in the paintings produced in class.
  • Demonstrate competency in communicating in a visual media to a viewer.
  • Demonstrate competency in using the visual media to both inform and influence the viewer.
  • Demonstrate the ability to mix color, to replicate techniques, to create texture, to use art principles, and to complete visual expression.
  • Demonstrate, in a visual medium, methods of communicating with the viewer.
  • Demonstrate the ability to properly present, exhibit, and meet with the public.

No book will be required for this course. Frequent research and study of periodicals and art history books is required. See Student Information Sheet for requirements of supplies.

Note: This is a college level class. No copies of other artists’ works or project images are permitted. Studies of masterworks may be considered under the conditions that a student has demonstrated exceptional ability, provides acknowledgement/attribution to the sources used, and declares the work as an instructional device/study.
