Coaching/Sports/Athletics II – Baseball and Softball

Study of the history, theories, philosophies, rules, and terminology of the competitive sports of Baseball and Softball. Opportunity to develop coaching philosophy. Three hours lecture per week.
Course Learning Objectives

  1. Develop and write coaching philosophy.
  2. Develop an efficient practice plan involving the entire team.
  3. Develop a sport camp
  4. Understand various offensive strategies.
  5. Understand various defensive strategies.
  6. Teach a specific skill or drill (of your choice) to a group of peers.
  7. Teach an offensive or defensive strategy (of your choice) to a group of peers.
  8. Understand the importance of an effective strength and conditioning program as it relates to the sport.
  9. Understand basic organizational/leadership skills needed in order to effectively run an entire program.
  10. Develop a personal coaching playbook.

Evaluation Standards

Student success is measured by assessment techniques aligned to course goals and learning outcomes. A variety of techniques may be used, including but not limited to objective exams/quizzes, classroom participation, physical assessments, demonstrations, written reports and group projects. Individual faculty members may also include selected computer programs and demonstrations of health facts with the aid of media and laboratory. Individual faculty members are responsible for designing evaluation instruments to measure student mastery of course goals and learning outcomes and for indicating the nature of such instrument in the instructor’s class requirements.

Semester grade will have letter grade assigned as follows

90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
Below 60 F
