Computed Tomography Practicum (or field experience)

Class

Practical, general workplace training supported by an individualized learning plan developed by the employer, college, and student.

Clinical Assignment:

 Clinical sites will be assigned by the WC Radiologic Technology Program Director.  The student will be responsible for the clinical orientation with the sites education department before beginning clinical practicum.  All required records needed for the clinical site education office will also be required in the Program Directors office before a student attend clinical education.  Students must meet these requirements to attend clinical education.  The student will be required to follow all hospital and WC CT program policies and procedures.

All the following will be uploaded in Canvas for the clinical faculty for a clinical grade:

Three student evaluations completed by the supervising CT technologist.

An evaluation of the clinical site and hospital CI.

A copy of your competencies of 3 to 5 exams of the 125 required by ARRT completed toward the 125.

Course Learning Objectives

As outlined in the learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes:       

ASRT and ARRT guidelines will be utilized for clinical practice, competency performance of exams, proper radiation protection, patient care and communication.

Evaluation Standards

Method of evaluation:

A = 91% - 100%                         

B = 83% - 90%

C = 78% - 82%

D = 77% - 74%

F = 73% -   0%

Hospital CI evaluation 50%

There will be 3 evaluations by the hospital CI the due dates are on the last page and will posted on Canvas page CTMT 2264.

Competencies 50%

There is a list of 59 procedures, which are broken down into 6 categories. Choose at least 25 of the 59 procedures and complete a minimum of 3 repetitions (exams) and a maximum of 5 repetitions for each of the 25 procedures you choose. IF YOU PERFORM LESS THAN 3 REPETITIONS, THE PROCEDURE WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD YOUR TOTAL.

ONLY 1 COMPETENCY IS ALLOWED PER PATIENT.

*In order to complete the total 125 needed to complete the clinical requirements, you must upload a competency exam log sheet, (which is located on the Canvas 2264 classroom under modules) at the end of every month under assignments. It must have 25 exams on the log sheet every month to ensure you are on track to complete the required number of completed exams.

Please log your exams on the ARRT website as you complete them.

To receive 50% you must have a total of 125 exams upon completion.

You must send a copy of your competencies for ARRT with the signatures included.  The final log sheet is due May 1st. Please upload the final log sheet to the 2264 Canvas classroom under assignments.  

Absences

It is the students responsibility to notify the clinical education site if absent before your scheduled time and the clinical faculty, Carsyn Crawford or Debra Daily.  A student that misses more than 3 days of clinical will receive a grade reduction of 5 points for each day missed after the 3 absences on their final grade.  Students will not go to clinical education during Spring Break. There are no make-up days in CTMT 2264 or banked time. Refer to clinical schedule which is posted on Canvas CTMT 2264 under the module section.
