Class

Skill development in the operation of computed tomographic equipment, focusing on routine protocols, image quality, quality assurance, and radiation protection.

Course Learning Objectives

Determine operating protocols for routine computed tomography to include radiation protection and quality assurance; and analyze imaging artifacts

Discuss contrast, contrast administration, contrast safety, and contrast injection techniques

Discuss Computed Tomography equipment

CT dose measurements

Explain ALARA in CT practice

Identify upper and lower extremity anatomy on cross sectional CT images

Discuss CT exam positioning

Describe scanning protocols and procedures

Identify patient diagnosis and appropriate exams

Discuss CT advanced scanning protocols

Discuss CT interventional procedures and PET/CT imaging

Discussion Board Participation 10%

A discussion board is established for this course.  Students are required to visit the discussion board and comment at least once a week, which is a minimum of 15 visits during the semester. The first week of class sign in is a required introduction.  Regular and continuous participation of classroom discussion boards is 10% of the course grade. It is highly recommended for students to designate a time each week to participate in the discussion.  Students choosing to participate only at the beginning and the end of the course to try to comply with the class requirement you will not receive full credit for this activity.  The purpose of the discussion board is for interaction between course students.  This is a serious activity but have fun with it because it 10% of your grade. 

Unit Quizzes 30%

You must complete the quizzes within the allotted time allowed.  You have 2 chances to take the timed quizzes\

Mid Term Exam 30%

Comprehensive Final 30%

This is a closed book exam covering all course content.  This will be a proctored exam.

This will be during finals week please do not ask to be absent during this time. Any extenuating circumstance will be at the discretion of the instructor.
