DEVW0301 emphasizes development of skills needed for college level writing including grammar, paragraph structure, and essay form. Critical reading and analytical skills are also developed. DEVW0301 will not transfer but will count for non-degree credit. Three hours lecture and twelve hours of tutorials required.
Upon successful completion of DEVW0301, the student will be able to demonstrate the following critical writing, reading and thinking skills on assignments and tests specific to each area:
- Compose a variety of texts that demonstrate clear focus, the logical development of ideas, and the use of appropriate language that advances the writer’s purpose.
- Determine and use effective approaches and rhetorical strategies for given writing situations.
- Generate ideas and gather information relevant to the topic and purpose, incorporating the ideas and words of other writers in student writing using established strategies.
- Evaluate relevance and quality of ideas and information to formulate and develop a claim.
- Develop and use effective revision strategies to strengthen the writer’s ability to compose college-level writing assignments.
- Edit writing to conform to the conventions of Standard English.

Grades will be taken at the discretion of the instructor. A breakdown of evaluation will be provided in the course outline.
At the end of the semester, you will receive a letter grade based on the following averages:
A = 90 – 100%
B = 80 – 89%
C = 70 – 79%
D = 60 – 69%
F = 0 – 59%
