Examination of building codes and requirements, construction types, and building materials. Topics include walls, flooring, foundations, and various roof types and the associated dangers of each. This course meets Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) Model Curriculum core requirements.
Academic Dishonesty Policy

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss NFPA 101 Standard for Life Safety Code.
- Compare and contrast construction types.
- Relate the art of building construction as it applies to firefighter safety, building codes, fire prevention, code inspection, and firefighting strategy and tactics.
- Classify major types of building construction.
- Calculate the interrelationships between loads and stresses placed on a building during a fire emergency.
- Predict the indicators of potential structural failure as they relate to firefighter safety.

Students will be evaluated based on their overall averages from the assignments, quizzes, class participation, semester long project, research papers, examinations and participations in discussion forums.
