Physical Geology

Class
Principles of physical and historical geology. Study of the earth's composition, structure, and internal and external processes. Includes the geologic history of the earth and the evolution of life. Three (3) hours lecture and three (3) hours lab per week. This course does meet the Weatherford College requirement for core transfer curriculum.
Course Learning Objectives

  1. Develop an appreciation for the basic geological processes and their effect on the Earth.
  2. Develop an appreciation for the geological processes that create physiographic features.
  3. Relate the geologic processes to potential hazards.
  4. Describe or identify physiographic features of the earth.
  5. Identify the principle minerals and rocks that compose the earth.
  6. Describe the tectonic and climatic forces that shape the earth.

Evaluation Standards

A minumun of three lecture tests and numerous lab practicals will provide the basic evaluation. The lab grade will comprise 25% of the finale grade. Participation in class and lab will effect the final grade by as much as 30%.

Grades:

90 - 100 = A
80 - 89 = B
70 - 79 = C
60 - 69
Below 60 = F

Instructional Methods
Lecture and Laboratory will be intermixed so that the minerals, rocks, maps, air photographs, structural models, etc. will directly enhance the lecture material.
