Upon completion of the course each student shall be given the opportunity to:

- Explain the functions of the tract of the mare

- Identify the actions of hormones and their relation to reproduction.
- Outline the estrous cycle of the mare.
- Explain endocrine control of ovarian function.
- Discuss the seasonal influence on ovarian cyclicity.
- Recognize the hormonal activity of the stallion.
- Describe the management of the mare and the stallion for optimum reproductive performance.
- Describe reproductive physiology of the stallion.
- Discuss reproductive physiology of the mare.
- Discuss gestation in horses.
- Discuss fertilization and ovum transport.
- Explain embryonic development.
- Outline pregnancy detection in horses.
- Breed a mare using A. I.
- Outline the procedure for stallion collection.
- Demonstrate the ability to collect a stallion using an AV.
- Explain the sanitation procedures in the A. I. Process.
- Discuss semen handling and collection.
- Foal a mare.
- Recognize management practices for a horse farm.
- Outline the business aspects of horse breeding.
- Discuss an effective record keeping system.
- Review the different software available.
Instructor evaluation of the student’s competency in each subject area will be measured during the semester by written examination and by laboratory exercises

Grades will be based on the percentages made from each of the areas listed above along with attitude, attendance, and participation.
