Emphasis on performance. Enrollment only by audition or by consent of instructor. Four hours lab per week.
Course Requirements
Students are expected to:
- attend all rehearsals and performances (see #1 below)
- be punctual and ready for rehearsals and performances (see #1 below)
- practice and prepare individual parts outside of class (see #2 below)
- be responsible for and assist with equipment, music, and instruments (see #3 below)
Course Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Participate in the accurate recreation of small ensemble music.
- Identify the performance techniques that contribute to characteristic performance of small ensemble music.
- Achieve excellence in small ensemble performance.
- Demonstrate understanding of and familiarity with small ensemble music genres.
Evaluation Standards
The student's semester grade results specifically from the following factors:
- Regular and punctual attendance* at rehearsals and performances = 50%
*Three or more unexcused absences will lower semester grade by one letter.
- Practice and preparation of individual parts = 30%
- Responsibility for and assistance with equipment, music, and instruments = 20%
