Skill development in business math problem-solving using electronic technology.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able:

  1. Calculate solutions to business problems manually and electronically.
  2. Read, Write, and round numbers.
  3. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
  4. Identify types of fractions; add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.
  5. Round decimals, convert fractions to decimals, and decimals to fractions. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals.
  6. Define and state purposes of the various parts of the checking account; explain, define, and complete a bank statement and reconciliation.
  7. Solve of equations with an unknown value. Complete word problems in solving for the unknown
  8. List and explain typical discount period and credit periods and calculate outstanding balances.
  9. Calculate dollar markup and selling price
  10. Calculate selling price based on cost.
  11. Calculate various types of employees' gross pay
  12. Calculate and compute payroll deductions for pay
  13. Calculate simple interest and maturity value
  14. Differentiate between interest-bearing and noninterest-bearing notes.
  15. Calculate bank discount and proceeds; calculate maturity value, bank discount and proceeds.
  16. Compare simple interest with compound interest
