- To provide students with a basic understanding of the vocabulary and methods used in the human service field.
- To provide students with practice in the areas of assessment, treatment planning, documentation and case management
- To provide students with practical, skill based knowledge to be utilized in the field
- To provide students with an understanding and rationale for best practice in the human service field.
Class participation & outside assignments will include class discussion questions and group participation, appropriate interaction with instructor and other students during lectures, and sharing personal findings and experiences in class. Outside assignments will include open book quizzes, glossaries, forums and internet research topics.
Exams will consist of multiple choices, true/false, short answer questions drawn from content of required text and semester study material

This is a hybrid class in which some of the assignments will be done as self-study/online assignments and some will be done during class time. You are expected to have all online assignments completed for the class meetings.
Online Quizzes
Each topic has a quiz that is to be completed using your online classroom. These “MOODLE” quizzes are worth up to 10 points each. NOTE: QUIZ GRADES COUNT AS PART OF YOUR TOTAL GRADE.
Glossary- Each topic has a glossary with key words to define. Complete the glossary for each topic and bring to class ready to discuss.
Discussion (Forums)
Each topic has a forum/dialogue pertaining to that topic. You must reply to the topic question and provide at least 2 responses to other student responses.
Internet research-case study
Each topic has an internet search article and/or case study. Find an article of interest and write a summary (1/2-1 page) about the article. Submit both.
Assignment
Each topic has one or more assignments related to the topic.
Project
Your project for this course is a completed assessment, treatment/service plan and progress note for a fictitious client.
Mid-term
There will be one Mid-term exam, given during class time.
Final
There will be one Final-exam given during the final exam week.
