Teaching Experience

am a Texas literacy educator and researcher, exploring the tenets of asset-based
pedagogies as they apply to designing learning experiences that delight children and
young adults with the written word (literacy), magnify their voices (composition), give
them form for vicarious experience (children’s and adolescent literature), and inspire
them to advocate for themselves and others. Centered around my core beliefs about
literacy, my efforts as an instructor and researcher illuminate possible avenues for
current and future teachers to redesign our public schooling system so that ALL children
may realize their fullest potential. Every day in every possible way, I strive to walk the
talk.
