Opera Workshop

Study and performance of choral music. Open to all voice parts by audition only. Three hours lab per week, including additional rehearsals and/or sectionals, as scheduled.

Course Requirements

Students are expected to attend all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances; be punctual; and to practice all individual parts outside of class.
Course Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Participate in the accurate recreation of operatic music.
  • Achieve excellence in music performance.
  • Enjoy a greater appreciation of opera music.

Evaluation Standards

The student's semester grade results specifically from the following factors:

  1. Regular and punctual attendance* at rehearsals, sectionals, and performances = 50%
    *Three or more unexcused absences will lower semester grade by one letter.
  2. Preparation of individual parts = 30%
  3. Responsibility for and assistance with equipment, music, sets, props, costumes, etc. = 20%
Required Materials
The director will provide all materials for this course.
Grading Standards

A Student’s work is exceptional and consistently above average.
B Student’s work is above average. Required assignments were completed in a timely manner and have met at least the minimum required standards.
C Student’s work is acceptable. Majority of assignments meet the minimum required standards.
D Student’s work fails to meet the minimum requirements for a grade of "C." Overall performance was sub-standard in comparison to normal expectations for this class.
F Student’s work is clearly unacceptable. Student either did not attempt the work, or failed to meet any of the minimum required standards.
