The purpose of this two term course is to provide an introduction to the principles and practices of organizational leadership. The second part of the course focuses on the application of leadership and management theory to effective leadership of the total enterprise. Topics include the complementary roles of leaders and managers, key figures and developments in leadership thought, and frameworks and tools for leading in a diverse and complex environment.
- Discuss the purpose of management and functions essential to managerial responsibility.
- Discuss historical figures and theories who have shaped management thought how they have influenced contemporary organizations.
- Examine methods for effective planning and strategy formulation.
- Perform an analysis and evaluation of an organization by applying concepts from this course.

The final course grade will be calculated based upon exams, class discussion, case studies, and other assignments the instructor may choose to include. Instructors may include participation grades and attendance as factors in determining course grades.
