Beginning Spanish II

Class

Continued development of basic Spanish language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing within a cultural framework. Students acquire the vocabulary and grammatical structures necessary to communicate and comprehend at the high beginner to low intermediate level.

Course Learning Objectives

Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will: Engage in conversations using level-appropriate grammatical structures including narrating events that take place in the past. Demonstrate understanding of level-appropriate spoken Spanish produced by Spanish speakers of diverse origins. Write simple to moderately complex sentences using level-appropriate grammatical structures and organize them into cohesive paragraphs. Read and comprehend level-appropriate authentic texts. Identify and discuss traditions, customs and values of the Hispanic world. Compare and contrast the traditions, customs and values of the Hispanic word with characteristics of their own culture.

Required Textbooks

This course uses Open Educational Resource (OER) materials. The resources are available in the Canvas classroom. Students do not need to purchase these materials. 

Evaluation Standards

At the beginning of the semester, instructors will provide each student with a course syllabus and outline of the course which includes departmental requirements and the specific requirements of the individual instructor. The grade for the course is weighted as follows:

30% Assignments in Canvas.
20% Quizzes.
10% Projects.
10% Oral Proficiency Exam (for hybrid class) or RVC (for online class)
10% Participation.
10% Midterm Exam.
10% Final Exam.

Required Materials
  • Internet access: Chrome is the recommended browser.
  • The ability to record yourself either with a microphone on your computer, phone or with headphones. It may be required to use submit videos and/or audio recordings.
  • Photo identification card. This will be used when taking quizzes and tests to verify your identity.

Weatherford College also provides the Coyote Pantry. The Pantry maintains boxed and canned foods for students in need. The location of the Coyote Pantry is two blocks west of the Weatherford campus at the Baptist Student Ministry (118 E. Park Ave., Weatherford). Pantry hours are Mon-Thurs. 8:30 am-4:30 pm and Fri. 8.30 am-12:00 pm (817-599-6586).
