The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) mandates that all students who are subject to TSI assessment are required to follow specific guidelines. Exemptions will be made for exceptional scores on the SAT, ACT, STAAR, or TAKS test; students enrolled in private or out-of-state university degree programs; students serving on active duty as members of the U.S. armed forces, the Texas National Guard, or a reserve component of the U.S. and have been serving for at least three years preceding enrollment; students who, on or after August 1, 1990, were honorably discharged, retired or released from active duty as members of the U.S. armed forces, the Texas National Guard, or a reserve component of the U.S.; and students who have graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree.
