Web Design I

Class

Instruction in web design and related graphic design including mark-up languages, and browser issues. For this course, Weatherford College maintains lab hours open to all students in the Academic Support Center and the library.

Identify how the Internet functions with specific attention to the file transfer; apply design techniques in the creation and optimization of graphics and other embedded elements; demonstrate the use of World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) formatting and layout standards; design, create, test, and maintain a web site.

Evaluation Standards

There will be approx. 10 quizzes, 2 exams, approx. 12 assignments, and a project website.

Final grades will be calculated by the following scale:

A - 90% and above
B - 80 to 89%
C - 70 to 79%
D - 60 to 69%
F - Less than 60%

Instructional Methods

Assignments:

The computer assignments will demonstrate your ability to use the computer and to use Adobe Dreamweaver. Assignments will be accepted up to a week late with a penalty. You are required to complete all of the assignments assigned. Adobe Dreamweaver will be the only program taught in this course. No other software or hardware will be supported for this course in the lab or by the instructor.

Quizzes:

Quizzes are open book.
You will receive random questions for each quiz.
Quizzes will be deactivated after the due date.
Quiz results are available for viewing after the due date.

Projects:

The project counts as 10% of your final grade and will NOT be accepted late.

Exams:

The 2 exams (Midterm and Final) MUST be proctored and will be closed-book. Material on the exams will come from a practice test that will be provided a week prior to the exams. A picture ID is required at exam time. Check the course schedule for the day/time that the two exams are available.

Attendance Policy:

Attendance is taken and verified for financial aid and other reasons by your Introduction Post and completion of your Profile. Weekly attendance thereafter is recorded by timely submissions of assignments. Any student who has not logged in or turned in an assignment after 7 days will be reported to student services.

Lab Availability:

All work can be done from home. However, there are computers in the library that you can use. You can also go to the Academic Support Center on the main campus (LART building).

Web Software: Adobe Dreamweaver (Student is responsible for downloading and paying for the subscription to this software for the duration of the course.)

Weatherford College also provides the Coyote Pantry. The Pantry maintains boxed and canned foods for students in need. The location of the Coyote Pantry is two blocks west of the Weatherford campus at the Baptist Student Ministry (118 E. Park Ave., Weatherford). Pantry hours are Mon-Thurs. 8:30 am-4:30 pm and Fri. 8.30 am-12:00 pm (817-599-6586).
